Senior Manager, Centralized Services
Lynne Linnell didn’t always have as much time as she wanted to volunteer. As an auditor she travelled a lot and fit in volunteering when she could. Once she moved to a role that required less travel she upped her volunteering time.
Ironically, her most memorable volunteer experience involved travel. Lynne went to Africa with the Canadian Cooperative Association. For 17 days she worked with credit unions in Ghana, sharing her knowledge and learning about their system.
“Sometimes we’re so far removed from what’s happening in other countries,” notes Lynne. “They have a grass roots credit union system that is remarkably similar to ours in philosophy. I enjoyed hearing about their vision for the future and working with them to help improve their system.”
Lynne was pleased by how supportive Servus was of the trip and of her other volunteer commitments, such as Junior Achievement. “Credit unions are community minded, no matter where you are.”
