    Become a board member

Servus Credit Union's Board of Directors is a passionate group of members with experience as entrepreneurs, business leaders, community advocates, and so much more.

They work as a team to serve and represent our more than half a million members with a laser focus on setting up our credit union for the future and providing value to our membership and communities.

The Board of Directors plays a critical role in shaping the future of Servus Credit Union.

Directors guide the strategic decisions that define how we deliver on our purpose: igniting the power of shared prosperity.

    • With over $38B in assets, nearly 3,000 employees, and more than half a million members, board service is more than governance — it’s an opportunity to guide a purpose-driven organization whose impact is felt across members’ financial lives, employee experience, and the communities we serve.

    • Servus recently became Canada’s largest and strongest credit union. Building on this momentum requires bold thinking, strong governance, and a mindset that reflects our values:

      • Evolving every day

      • Unapologetically ambitious

      • Purposely cooperative

    • We believe strong governance reflects the people it serves. We encourage members from all backgrounds, professions, and communities to consider running.

Serving on the Board is a paid position, and directors serve three-year terms. Directors are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to governance responsibilities. This includes:

    • Attending regularly scheduled Board meetings (typically five per year) and an annual two- to three-day planning session.

    • Serving on at least one committee, with quarterly and additional meetings as required.

    • Participating in ad hoc meetings as needed.

    • Engaging in ongoing education and other committee work.

Refer to this document to learn more about the Board’s functions, commitments, and liabilities.

The full list of eligibility criteria is published at the start of the nomination period each September.

Each year, the Board identifies the skills and experiences that will best support our credit union’s evolving needs.

We’re looking for candidates who bring a combination of professional expertise, educational designations, and real-world experience, including strengths in:

    • Board governance and understanding of the cooperative business model
    • Strategic planning and executive leadership
    • Risk oversight (ERM) and financial services expertise
    • Business transformation and change management
    • Audit (internal or external) and regulatory/government relations
    • Legal, human resources, and entrepreneurial leadership
    • IT, digital, and data governance, as well as cybersecurity
    • Innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
    • Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)

Equally important are the personal qualities that contribute to effective and impactful board leadership. We seek individuals who are:

    • Team players who collaborate and support others
    • Passionate about the credit union system
    • Active and engaged in their communities
    • Strategic thinkers who see the big picture
    • Committed to learning, listening, and driving meaningful change
    • As a board member, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of Canada’s largest and strongest credit union.

    • You’ll help guide the strategic direction of a growing, purpose-driven organization—one that exists to ignite the power of shared prosperity for its members and communities.

    • From financial performance to member experience, you’ll ensure our credit union delivers lasting value while staying true to its cooperative roots.

    • You’ll collaborate with fellow directors and leaders who embody our values: evolving every day, unapologetically ambitious, and purposely cooperative.

    • This is a paid governance role, with compensation provided in recognition of the time, expertise, and accountability required to fulfill board responsibilities.
