Member eligibility

You must meet the following requirements to attend and vote at the 2025 AGM:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A member of Connect First and Servus Credit Union Ltd. as of October 31, 2024
  • Must be in good standing as per the Credit Union Act

Special Resolution

Special Resolution wording:

“Be it resolved that the members approve amending its articles to change the credit union name to Servus Credit Union Ltd., which is subject to the Minister of Finance's approval of the amendment.”

Background

We recently shared the decision to go forward as a unified credit union under the Servus brand name. Currently, Servus operates as a trade name of our merged credit union, the legal name for which is “Connect First and Servus Credit Union Ltd.”

The current legal name was always intended just as a placeholder until a brand decision could be thoughtfully made. The legal name appears on important forms and documents, but because it differs from the brand name members recognize, we currently have to rely on addendum paperwork and disclaimers to bridge the gap.

While this is manageable, it is not ideal.

To address this, members will vote at our AGM on a special resolution which proposes to change our legal name to align with our brand name. If passed, this will create a more cohesive member experience, eliminate additional paperwork for members and staff, and avoid significant costs.

While this is simply an administrative matter, it’s an important one in terms of member experience and keeping our resources focused where they matter most – which is serving our members.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is an opportunity for members to receive updates on the credit union’s performance, vote on important matters, and engage with leadership.

  2. How can I attend the AGM?

This year’s AGM is a hybrid event, meaning you can attend virtually, or in person at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. Whether you join us in person or online, you’ll have the same opportunity to participate fully, ask questions, and cast your vote for our Special Resolution.

  3. How long will the meeting last?

  5. Do I need to register to attend?

Yes, all members must register by March 2, 2025, 5pm (MST) to attend. Registration helps us:

    • Confirm attendance numbers.
    • Ensure eligible members receive the necessary voting credentials.
    • Send virtual attendees their secure meeting link ahead of the AGM.

  6. Will meeting materials be available before the AGM?

Yes, members will have access to all meeting materials before the AGM. These will be available on this page in the days before the AGM.

To reduce our environmental impact, a limited number of printed copies will be available at the in-person meeting. We strongly encourage members to download or have digital copies accessible during the meeting.

  7. Will future AGMs be held in different locations?

Our credit union serves members across the province, and we continuously explore ways to ensure that all members can participate, including by offering virtual participation and by changing the host city.

Special Resolution

  1. What are members being asked to vote on?

Members are voting to align our legal name with our brand name. For full details of the Special Resolution, including what it means and why it matters, please click here.

  2. How will voting work for this Special Resolution?

Members will vote on this resolution during the AGM. If attending virtually, voting will take place using the online meeting platform. In-person attendees will vote using the voting tool provided at the meeting.

  3. What would a “Yes” vote on this Special Resolution mean for members?

A “Yes” vote would simplify operations, reduce administrative burden, and allow us to focus on initiatives that benefit members. It would also ensure a consistent name across all interactions, making it easier to do business with us, and help us save costs by continuing to use existing legal documents and back-office systems that are already tied to the Servus name.

  4. What would a “No” vote mean?

A “No” vote would lead to ongoing inefficiencies and higher administrative costs, including at least $250,000 to update legal documents and systems. Over time, these inefficiencies could double the credit union’s out of pocket costs.

  5. What percentage of votes is required for approval?

A Special Resolution requires at least 66.67% approval from voting members to pass.
