Co-operative Development Foundation and the "Build a Better World" Campaign
To celebrate the UN’s International Year of Co-operatives in 2012, Servus announced our commitment to support the Co-operative Development Foundation’s (CDF) “Build a Better World Campaign” with $100,000 over a three year period. The money helps to support CDF's development partner, the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA), as it works with co-operatives and credit unions to alleviate poverty in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Although the majority of funding supports projects in the developing world, part of CDF’s support also goes to building co-operatives and credit unions in Canada, specifically within Aboriginal communities. Past support has included food, fisheries, retail, housing, artistic, tourism and ecological management co-operatives in First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities across the country.
Servus has been an active supporter of CDF and CCA's international program for many years. In addition to financial support, Servus employees have volunteered their time to assist credit unions overseas and Servus branches have helped to train and mentor credit union professionals from Africa and Asia through CCA's Women's Mentorship Program.
"Servus Credit Union is deeply committed to corporate social responsibility. We devote substantial resources to making our communities better, healthier, more environmentally friendly places and we are proud to support the good work of the co-operative movement. By partnering with the Co-operative Development Foundation, we also work towards our vision of building a better world one member at a time.” Garth Warner, President and CEO.
